CPAP Device Cleaning & Maintenance
Proper care and maintenance of your CPAP equipment help ensure effective therapy, reduce the risk of infection, and extend the life of your device. Here's what you need to know to keep everything clean and working properly.
Why Cleaning Your Equipment Matters
Each night, your CPAP system is exposed to moisture, heat, and the natural oils from your skin and breath. Without regular cleaning:
Bacteria, mold, and mildew can build up
You may experience unpleasant odors or skin irritation
Equipment performance can decline over time
There’s an increased risk of respiratory infections

Daily & Weekly Cleaning Checklist
Daily:
Mask cushion or pillows – Gently wash with warm water and mild, fragrance-free soap. Rinse thoroughly and allow to air dry.
Humidifier water chamber – Empty any leftover water each morning, rinse with warm water, and leave it to dry.
Weekly:
Mask (frame and headgear) – Soak in warm, soapy water for 5–10 minutes. Rinse well and let air dry completely.
Tubing – Wash in warm water with mild soap. Rinse thoroughly and hang to dry.
Water chamber (deep clean) – Wash with mild soap or a 1:1 vinegar and water solution to help prevent mineral buildup.
Reusable filters (if applicable) – Rinse with cold water and air dry fully before reinserting.
⚠️ Avoid harsh chemicals, bleach, or alcohol, which can damage the materials and irritate your airways.
Mask Cleaning Tips
Always disassemble your mask before washing to clean each part thoroughly.
Use only warm water and mild, fragrance-free soap—harsh cleaners can damage the materials.
Rinse everything thoroughly and let it air dry away from direct sunlight.
Check for signs of wear like stiffness, cracks, or discoloration—these may indicate it’s time to replace the part.
If you're noticing odors, buildup, or reduced comfort with your equipment, it may be time for a deep clean or replacement.
